potentially ableist language?

is using the word "dummy" like "dummy value" to describe a test value insensitive (ableist)?
For instance: some commands operate on sensitive collection of files. I have a "dummy file" in that collection that I can safely operate on to test, without keeping the output private.

If so, I'd appreciate hearing alternative words I can use!

I have just released ./badges v2.2.0 (a generator for privacy-friendly README badges), featuring a bugfix in CLI argument parsing, a new flag for printing version information and an improved build/release process. Get it on @codeberg at codeberg.org/lhinderberger/dot

Remember to indent your code by negative four spaces

class HelloWorld {
public static void main(String[] args) {
System.out.println(
"Hello, World!"
);
}
}

Material profit is completely irrelevant for the owning class. They already live in a post-scarcity world. The amounts of money they spend on material goods is negligible to them compared to the money they "invest" fir later return.

The working class on the other hand lives in shitty houses without heating, drives broken cars and uses fifteen year old computers because all the value they create through their labor is being stolen to increase completely imaginary profit margins

why is that possible

if I were a program that downloads stuff I would simply keep downloading

python devs will be like "that stack trace obviously means you need to change the config file which is also just a python script. this is a normal thing for software to do."

have you ever heard someone use the slang phrase "home skillet" ?

GoToSocial news, fundraising post, OpenCollective launch

Hey everyone! We're launching #GoToSocial fundraising on our brand spanking new #OpenCollective page today, to help raise funds to pay contributors!

The open collective page is here:

opencollective.com/gotosocial/

And the post launching the Open Collective page is here:

opencollective.com/gotosocial/

An extract from that launch post is below :)

Thanks for reading!

---

We're organizing a long-term fundraising for #GoToSocial, on #OpenCollective! Some of you may have already supported us over on Liberapay, which we're incredibly grateful for, and it has helped us jumpstart some of this process (and to pay for our cute sloth logo!). In future, we want to use Open Collective.

Our short-term goals are simple.

Firstly, we want to be able to pay people for code contributions to the project, when they need it.

Secondly, we're looking for contributions to help us cover basic costs like hosting fees for our automated build system.

Finally, we also want to be able to put money forward for translation work, graphic design, accessibility audits, security audits, or any other small pieces of work that GoToSocial might require.

Eventually, we want to be able to hire developers, either salaried or freelance. As a milestone on the way to this goal, we're looking to make SuperSeriousBusiness into a non-profit organization by the end of 2022.

money, anxiety

money brings me so much anxiety

I have almost nothing left in my account, and the thoughts about how much I've spent and how hard it'll be until I get more money makes me so anxious

I just hope to be approved in the job I've applied to; then I'll be able to provide for myself and for my girlfriend without completely freaking out
