Shoutout to #Debian for giving the world an amazing non-corporate community distro.
audio stuff, eavesdropping
the point is, the guys behind me in this cafe probably think I'm checked out and can't hear them, when really I can hear them considerably better than the nearby people with open ears.
One thing I did not realize (and which most people probably don't realize) is that noise-cancelling headphones don't really go to a very high frequency. While they're great to take out the bulk of street and mechanical noise, they do very little to speech, or at least the parts that are important for understanding. I can often understand people in busy settings *better* with my headphones turned on than without them.

I want to help, I really do, but that's simply not how it works.
This is not about my convenience, this is about not hurting myself.
I get that the author prides himself on this, but the reality is that the nasty parts can only be ironically funny to you if you're privileged enough, and so the only people who can safely read the whole comic without running over something that will hurt them are cis white men. I'm not really cool with that.
It's not even a barrel of mostly good apples with a few poisoned ones, it's like a barrel containing every kind of apple ever, from ones that will heal you for 50 HP to ones that will kill you in one bite, and every degree of ripeness and rottenness in between.
I still read it, but I never recommend it.
I feel like Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal is like a roughly even mix of
- Comedy gold
- Mediocre jokes
- Bad jokes
- Actually bad, like not even so-bad-it's-ironically-funny jokes
- Downright harmful jokes
- Legitimately interesting philosophy
- Pretty silly philosophy
- Really shitty philosophy
- Astute political commentary
- Weak political commentary
- Really shitty political commentary
