If you'd like to set up your own Mastodon instance, I created a basic guide. It runs you through Let's Encrypt and nginx settings so you'll have A+ SSL and IPv6 too (for instances.mastodon.xyz):

@audiodude Neat, always good to get a take on things. I worked through the official guide yesterday and it seemed to go OK in a test rig.
Personally I'll be using KVM, really need to find the time to look at Docker.
Mailgun is going to be super useful, wish I'd known about it earlier.
