I discovered that when you turn on ZFS compression after the fact, it doesn't actually go and compress the existing files. There's not even a defrag command like btrfs that does it for you. You have to send | recv the file system again...

I've been joking that ZFS is the next-generation file system from the 2000s. I guess it's not really a joke.
