@0x4464 welcome (back) to the fediverse! Much of what you voice here resonates with me, so I hope you'll welcome a new follower :)

@emsenn Thanks, I appreciate that :)

@0x4464 I'm a newbie to CSS & HTML, but I can't figure out how you did the line on hovered links... Can you direct me to the right spot in the source easily enough? I'd like to, uh, borrow it.

@emsenn

No problem, feel free to take it and use it on your own site.

The CSS for that is in this file (lines 17-52):
github.com/0x4464/0x4464.githu

The gist of it is the <a> tag is position relative with a :before that is position absolute (this is the line). The width of the :before is 0 with a .3s transition.

When you hover we set the :before to width:100%, which causes it to animate across the link like that.

Let me know if that doesn't make sense or if you need any help :)

@0x4464 I think I know just enough to follow your explanation! Thank you very much.

@0x4464 I share many of your interests!

I'm also a self-taught software developer (since I stopped being a lawyer) and, from your list, am interested in at least #meditaion, #webdev, #security, and #privacy. (Re the last two, I'm currently working on a command-line password generator, link below, which is getting fairly close to a v1.0.0 release.)

@codesections Wow, I love that you jumped from such a radically different industry into development. That's impressive.

I really like your password generator. I'm going to install it later and try it out. I find the use case of logging in on a computer without your password manager on it a particularly helpful use case.

I also enjoyed your write up about your site. The web has definitely strayed from it's readable past and has gotten very bloated.
